A Queer Halloween Elopement in Austin Texas

When it comes to Austin elopements, this one takes the cake: retro 70s style, pops of color, a drag queen officiant, and it all took place on Halloween! Vibrant and full of joy, Ana and Zoe’s intimate day was a retro-lovin’ dreamscape. Every moment was a perfect blend of color and community presented as a smorgasbord of groovy 70s style. Let’s dive into all the details that made this queer Austin elopement an absolute vibe.

Finding a Whimsical East Austin Lounge on Peerspace

Ana and Zoe’s magical day took place at a charming Peerspace venue in Austin – a 60s/70s-inspired house designed by the iconic Mexican interior designer Dani Klarić.

It had all my favorite things and I was ready to move in: bold colors, funky furniture, and an ultra-cool lounge style. From its vibrant walls to vintage-inspired details, the space was not only a perfectly-styled backdrop, but the kind of joy-filled space Ana and Zoe envisioned for saying “always and forever.”

Designed for events and intimate gatherings, this gem of a location in Central East Austin gave their day a totally dreamy and super nostalgic house-party energy.

I think every couple can learn from Ana and Zoe here: ditch the usual Austin venues and pick a spot that feels like you. I love that they thought outside of the box and used Peerspace to find a creative, hidden gem in the city. If you’re looking to do something similar, give Peerspace a try!

Getting Ready & a Sweet Surprise

Before walking down the aisle (or in this case, gathering in a retro-chic living room), the couple and their dogs got ready on site. Ana’s little white dress and edgy black boots paired perfectly with Zoe’s groovy, checkered suit. Just add in their pups, and the heartwarming scene is complete… or was it?

Their elopement started as an intimate affair with just the couple and their furry friends. Little did Ana know, a surprise was brewing! Under the radar, Zoe had invited their closest friends and fam to the elopement, turning it into a surprise micro wedding.

I think the look on Ana’s face says it all — they were overjoyed to turn their special day into a slightly bigger celebration.

A Drag Queen-Officiated Austin Elopement

Zoe and Ana’s elopement was officiated by the fabulous drag queen Celia Light, who turned heads in a stunning lesbian flag-inspired gown.

Celia kicked off the ceremony by introducing Zoe and Ana, who danced into the home’s cozy, retro lounge. Their vow exchange was so heartfelt and really shined through in every photo!

Once the ladies had kissed their wife, Celia Light kicked off the festivities with a surprise performance, transitioning the sentimental moment into an energetic dance party featuring Chappell Roan’s “HOT TO GO.”  ❤️‍🔥

And let’s not forget the adorable Halloween-themed cake by Lovejoy Bakery. Decorated with little ghosties on top, it was the cutest subtle nod to their Halloween Day elopement. Sharing a bite with their guests was the sweetest ending to their perfect day.

Gallery Highlight: Their Elopement on 35mm Film

If a retro aesthetic is important to your wedding, I would highly recommend working with a hybrid photographer who works in both film and digital. I captured these gems on 35mm film, which add an incredible authenticity to the look of their gallery, but also used my digital camera to catch those essential moments with a bit more flexibility. All of the photos were edited in my signature style for a cohesive final gallery that was gobsmackingly gorg.

Why This Was the Ultimate Queer Elopement In Austin

Zoe and Ana gave us a masterclass on eloping in a true Texan way: all their own. They boldly broke traditions and celebrated their queerness while also kept the parts of a traditional wedding that felt right to them. As an elopement photographer, I’ve witnessed dozens of Austin weddings and this one led the pack when it comes to celebrating love in a way that was undeniably authentic to my clients.

From the gorgeous retro house via Peerspace to the surprise guests and drag queen officiant – this whole day is the kind of vibe I dream of. 🤩Not that you should plan your wedding around me, or anything, but just know that if you’re into bold color, a groovy aesthetic, Halloween romances, and unabashed queerness, Christy Anna Photography is the chef’s kiss choice.
