Witte Museum Wedding in San Antonio

From their thoughtful, nontraditional approach to the bold venue choice, Anthony and Joseph’s wedding at the Witte Museum was an absolute (dino-themed) dream. It effortlessly toed the line between playfully unique and timelessly joyful.

Their wedding was filled with intentionality and unapologetic joy – all the things that make my heart do a little happy dance. Especially because Anthony and Joseph aren’t just clients – they’re dear friends of mine. So when they asked me to photograph their big day, I immediately said, "HECK YES, sign me up!"

Every detail had their personalities written all over it, and it’s weddings like this that keep me madly in love with what I do. Celebrating all love and the belief that our differences are beautiful? That’s my jam — that’s my kind of art, babes.

The Witte Museum: A Nontraditional Downtown San Antonio Wedding Venue

Having a wedding at the Witte Museum is a total vibe. Think lush greenery for your outdoor "I do’s," and then bam! You’re dancing the night away under the towering skeletons of prehistoric dinosaurs. Y’all, it’s giving Night at the Museum in the best possible way.

Anthony and Joseph chose the Witte in downtown San Antonio because of their mutual love for dinosaurs (I mean, who doesn’t love dinosaurs?!), and they highlighted this fun, personal detail throughout their day. From their invites featuring cute dinos to having massive fossils as their reception backdrop – it was so unique and absolutely magical. Joseph is a science teacher, and Anthony works in education outreach, so the museum's historic yet whimsical charm fits their vibe to a T.

It’s the kind of venue that’s totally unforgettable and 1000% them.

The Witte Museum is located at 3801 Broadway, San Antonio, Texas 78209 right next to Brackenridge Park and along the banks of the San Antonio River.

Why I Highly Recommend Getting Ready Together

Let me tell you, the way Anthony and Joseph started their day melted my heart. Instead of going the traditional route of getting ready separately, they spent the wedding morning together in their suite at Hotel Emma sipping drinks, sharing laughs, and soaking in that pre-wedding glow.

Hotel Emma’s stunning vintage charm and luxe cozy vibes created the perfect setting. Anthony and Joseph’s choice to spend that time alone together set the tone for the rest of the day – fun, laid back and totally focused on what really matters: their love.

(Not to mention, it was a short hop over to the Witte from there!)

And that’s why, as a wedding photographer, I can’t advocate for doing things your own dang way enough. I fully believe that the only thing you have to do on your wedding day is say “I do.”

Already relaxed and feeling themselves, Anthony and Joseph were ready to jump into some oh-so-joyfully-in-love portraits as they explored Hotel Emma with me. And that is the secret to incredible wedding photos: feeling relaxed, happy, and in-the-moment with your favorite person (and favorite photographer).

An Outdoor Ceremony at The Witte Museum

Anthony and Joseph’s ceremony was a tearjerker, y’all. They entered the ceremony at the same time, each escorted by their parents. It was such a powerful, heartfelt moment.

Moments like these make me want to scream from the rooftops: there are no rules for weddings! Whether you’re an LGBTQ+ couple figuring out your own traditions or just a couple wanting to go your own way, this was a beautiful reminder that you absolutely can (and I will always help you make it happen).

Their wedding party was small but mighty — just their two best friends — and it made everything feel so intimate. There wasn’t a dry eye in the courtyard!

The Witte is one of my top 10 stylish and soulful San Antonio wedding venues filled with style and soul. Want to see the other 9? Read the blog.

The Witte Wedding Reception: Dinner & Dancing Among the Dinos

Dancing with your favorite people, surrounded by giant, millions-of-years-old dinosaur skeletons? Talk about an epic backdrop.

But the fun didn’t stop there. The boys added a personal and playful touch with a Taylor Swift-inspired friendship bracelet station, plant cuttings as guest favors (eco-friendly and adorable), and games at every table. Little details like these made the whole night feel like a giant love-fest, totally centered around who they are and the people they love most.

The best part? They didn’t stress about sneaking away for a ton of extra portraits because their earlier getting-ready time gave us all the magic we needed. Instead, they stayed fully present, dancing the night away.

A Day Filled with Love & Joy at the Witte Museum

Anthony and Joseph’s Witte Museum wedding was a kaleidoscope of intentional moments, thoughtful details, and so much joy. Every second of their day reflected their one-of-a-kind, beautiful love.

“Oh my god! We just looked at ‘em together and are very overwhelmed. They’re all so beautiful and so are you!! Love you Christy 💕💕💕💕💕💕””— Joseph
